10g Nano Reef

Popular opinion once stated that to have a successful reef tank, one needed a large system preferably 55 gallons or larger. However, today many keep very successful reefs in as little as just a few pints of saltwater! These tanks are known as "nano" reefs, derived from the Greek word nanos meaning "dwarf." They follow the same principles as their larger counterparts, and although they are not cheap, they have opened doors for many who do not have the space nor $ for larger systems to enjoy the rewards of owning a reef tank. If you are committed to researching and understanding the basic fundamentals of saltwater fish keeping, a nano tank is an excellent way to get into the hobby.

Update: February 18, 2004 -- After moving, we combined everything in the 10g nano tank into our 55g tank. The pictures and information will remain here as a resource for others. I will also continue to put together articles and information based on nano-aquaria.
